Quick Answers To Common Questions

• Disc Brake Rotors (2)

What tools are required to install a disc brake rotor using a SwissStop Centerlock Adapter?

A 16 notch (44 mm) bottom braket tool is required for installation and removal of a compatible disc brake rotor using a SwissStop Centerlock Adapter. SwissStop recommends a socket type tool and torque wrench for installation. The required torque setting is indicated on the Lockring component of the Centerlock Adapter.

• Disc Brake Pads (6)

Do SwissStop disc brake pads have a left and right side?

If the two pads in a package of SwissStop disc brake pads are not exactly the same shape (pads are asymmetrical) then there is a left and right side. Check for indications printed on the pads or refer to the technical documentation below.

Download the Identify Left and Right Side Pads Technical Information document.

With what brake systems are SwissStop Disc 30 pads compatible?

SwissStop Disc 30 models are compatible with Magura MT 2, 4, 6 and 8 calipers, and can be used to replace a variety of Campagnolo disc pad types. Please refer to the technical documentation for the most up-to-date information.

What SwissStop pads can be used with EKAR brake calipers?

Updated SwissStop Disc 30 models can be used as replacements for DB-310 type pads for EKAR. Please refer to the technical documentation for timeline of pad updates and compatibility details.

Where can I find Disc S (sintered) compound pads?

SwissStop has stopped producing Disc S models and recommends Disc E as a replacement. Disc E provides:

  1. Low noise – Disc E is quiet in dry conditions, similar noise to Disc S in wet conditions
  2. Smooth modulation – Disc E provides better control of the braking power
  3. Better durability – Disc E lasts about twice as long as Disc S while also less abrasive on the rotor

For further information, please see the Disc E tech doc.

My disc brake calipers have a brake pad retention bolt - how tight should this bolt be fastened?

The recommended torque for the pad retention bolt is 0.5 Nm. Use caution when installing this bolt. Overtightening may cause damage to the bolt and/or caliper. Always use the supplied retention clip.

How do I install SwissStop Disc 33 E brake pads?

Disc 33 E brake pads install using the same procedure as the original equipment brake pads for Magura MT5 and MT7 series brake calipers. After fully retracting the caliper pistons and removing the existing brake pads according to the brake caliper manufacturer's instructions, install one Disc 33 E brake pad at a time, ensuring the first pad is correctly positioned before installing the second. Complete the remaining installation steps according to the brake caliper manufacturer's instructions, then perform the recommended SwissStop brake bed-in procedure before normal riding.
• Rim Brake Pads (13)

Which pads should I use with my carbon rims?

Always use the pad recommended by your wheel builder. SwissStop can not overtake any warranty from your wheel builder.

Which is the most powerful SwissStop compound for alloy rims?

BXP pads not only deliver great modulation but also superior wet and dry performance on alloy rims.

Can I use SwissStop carbon pads on alloy rims?

Yes, it works but alloy pads perform much better on alloy rims and the change from alloy to carbon rims can be dangerous for carbon rims. Any alloy bubble in the carbon pad can destroy a carbon rim in only a few braking intervals.

Can I use alloy pads on carbon rims?

NO, heat resistance of a SwissStop alloy pad is only about half that of a SwissStop carbon pad. Alloy pads about 160°C, SwissStop carbon pads about 300°C.

Which is the most gentle SwissStop compound for alloy rims?

It depends on your rim. If braking power is not your main target Original Black pads should be best for you.

Which pads for Mavic Exalith rims?

Only use original Mavic Exalith 2 pads for all Mavic Exalith rims.

Which pads for Mavic Carbon rims?

Use either Mavic or SwissStop Yellow King brake pads. No other brake pad is yet approved for Mavic Carbon rims.

Which pads for Bontrager carbon road wheels?

Bontrager Aeolus D3 and Bontrager Aeolus D3 TLR product lines are all approved for use with Black Prince (either version, FlashPro or Flash EVO) pads in all conditions.

How do you tell the difference between SwissStop pads for alloy wheels and SwissStop pads for carbon wheels?

White writing on the pad indicates a pad for alloy wheels.

Yellow pad or yellow printing on the pad indicates a pad for carbon wheels.

Which pads for Campagnolo Shamal Mille or Fulcrum Racing Zero Nite rims?

Only use original Campagnolo Shamal Mille Blue pads for all Campagnolo Shamal Mille and Fulcrum Racing Zero Nite rims.

Which pads for DT Swiss Oxic wheels?

Only SwissStop BXP compound pads (FlashPro, FlashEVO or RacePro) are approved for DT Swiss Oxic wheels.

Where can I find GHP2 compound pads?

BXP has replaced GHP2 as SwissStop’s high performance compound for alloy wheels. BXP offers more brake power and better modulation than GHP2.

For further information, please read the BXP tech doc.

What is the difference between FlashPro and Flash EVO brake pad models?

Flash EVO is slightly thinner than FlashPro. This allows Flash EVO to be mounted in cases where the clearance between the brake surface of the rim and the brake pad holder is narrower than usual, such as with wide carbon rims, older generation brake calipers, some types of ‘aero’ brake calipers or frame-integrated brake calipers.

For more information, please see the FlashPro vs Flash EVO Tech Document
